Hi March

I was going to start of this post with eggs and chicks and bunnies etc. But, I have just realised that Easter is actually in April this year. Huh? That said, it doesn’t mean that we can’t start to enjoy Easter goodies however, so, I will definitely be making the most of the mini eggs, Cadburys cream eggs and M&S Chocolate Toffee hot cross bun season!

I actually can’t believe it’s March already? Time really does fly by. Maybe it’s because we all wish away the cold and dreary winter months but it feels like we haven’t had it too bad winter wise here in Berkshire?

March is the month I think most of us have all been waiting for, it means Spring is well and truly on its way – the official first day of Spring is the 20th whoop whoop! It’s definitely over the next few weeks that we sense the seasonal shift – the air changes, the days get longer and then finally the clocks go forward on the 26th and that means little Louis gets longer walks after work. (my work not Louis’s that Pug does nothing to earn his keep).

This month is when all the bulbs burst in to life. We had a little teaser with the snowdrops and crocuses but now we shift gear and all of a sudden its like the whole world starts to emerge from its wintery slumber and of course with St Davids Day today, we get to enjoy some lovely daffodils. Happy St David’s day Wales!

With all this action outside, it’s when our attention starts to turn to the garden. For the last two years, since we finished our building project, we have been trying to turn what started off as a rubbish filled mud bog to something that behind to resemble a garden. So it’s back on with the wellies and some pootling about, secateurs in hand pretending to know what I’m doing (I don’t, I’m a professional plant killer).

Talking about outside, this is the first time this year that I will be braving the IACF antiques fair which takes place in Shepton Mallet on the 10 – 12th March. It was far too cold when we went to the first few last year but I haven’t been to one since July so I’m really excited to get back to foraging around and finding some lovely bits for the house. It really is one of my most favourite things to do so I literally cannot wait!

Inside, I’m on a redecorating quest and have started with the spare room which has kind of become the last chance saloon for odd bits of furniture and accessories that haven’t been used around the rest of the house.

I’ve painted the room now and am in the process of clearing out the bits I don’t want anymore. I’m debating ebay vs a car-boot to rid of the clutter though I’m not sure I can bear the hell that is car-boot selling…?

I inherited a small side cabinet which I’ve decided to put in there and I’m trying to decide whether to paint it or not. Then it will be new curtains or blinds and dressing it with some pretty bits and bobs so I’m on the scout for some new accessories.

Next on the list is a bit of a bathroom revamp – mostly painting and adding some dado rail (is it still called that) as I have decided it’s too bland as it is. It also got a bit damaged and dirty when they linked the plumbing for the extension so its been waiting for some attention and its been driving me crazy seeing the exposed pipework and holes in the wall.

I’m definitely getting the ‘Spring cleaning’ vibe and so the rest of the house is getting a once over including my wardrobe. Thankfully the ‘what were you thinking’ pile is hasn’t got any bigger which means I’m learning to curb my impulsive ways and I’m getting better at making savvy purchases.

Last but not least, March of course means Mothers day (26th) . It’s always a day of mixed emotions for me. Although I’m yet to speak about it on here, Mothers day is a painful reminder of the struggles I’ve experienced on my own journey to motherhood and so I can find it an emotional day in that respect. Each year I wonder if maybe next year will be the one I finally get a card. But that aside, it’s an incredibly beautiful day for all the lovely mummies out there and so I love to spoil my own mummy and this year will be no different.

So it’s set to be a busy month and I’m pretty excited for all that’s happening. What’s your favourite things about March and the start of the spring?
